Dim Progress Check #2 - “Laying the Foundation”
We have spent the last couple of weeks transitioning our original 2D animatic into 3D.
Ian and I worked to break down our original animatic into 8 sequences composed of various shots. We then worked to organize these into different folders on the server that allowed space for our version for the animatic and a work area.
In order to meet this deadline, we had to deviate from our assigned roles of blocking, character animation, camera animation, and editing and just assign each member to a sequence. This is something that will certainly change going forward with our next deadline. It brought with it challenges such as consistency with model color, camera timing, and individual comprehension of each shot. Comprehension specifically is something we began seeking a solution to following our in-class review.
For the first deadline, I took up the role of editor, a role I will likely keep for the foreseeable future with this project. Right now that consists of being the main compiler for our short on Adobe Premiere Pro. To help with this process, I have organized all the clips into bins and color-coded each collection of clips to match with sequences.
I was in charge of our third and seventh sequences. This was an interesting experience as a member of the group who didn’t work on the original animatic. It was nice expressing artistic freedom with the interpretation of camera timing and character movements.
The main critique we got from our class review was comprehension, which is something that can hopefully be ironed out as we produce better temporary assets for our next review. I’m looking forward to both the challenges and discoveries I have modeling some of our characters.
