Dim Progress Check #12 - “Moving with Motivation”
The semester has started and our team is on the final stretch for finishing our film. I am optimistic. It’s nice reflecting on the numerous road bumps, technical difficulties, and other hurdles we’ve encountered and truly understanding just how much we have overcome to get to where we are. While there is a tough road ahead of us still, the rest of my team and I are motivated to make Dim the best short film it can possibly be.
Over the break, I’ve devoted most of my time to getting blocking and early rough stages of animation for our later sequences. I’ve completed the rough animation for our eighth sequence and am in the early stages of blocking for our fourth. Here are some screenshots from some of my favorite scenes (click to see the next image).
Thanks to a helpful discussion with one of our professors, I feel much more confident in approaching our sequence involving nothing but the shadows of our characters. I knew going into it that I would have to heavily manipulate the environment to get the effect we desired, but Professor Jeremy suggested projecting the animated shadows in Unreal. This would remove a lot of tedious environment keying while still giving us the effect we want. I will update this more as it develops.
I’m very excited moving forward. The animation portion of this film is the part I was most excited about, so finally getting to spend a large amount of time polishing it is something I am eager to do.
