Dim Progress Check #14 - “What Goes On In The Shadows”
Our first production pass came and went with a surprising amount of support. We reached our goal of blocking out the animation for every sequence in 3D and succeeded in rendering **most of our shots in the engine. It’s nice to see everything coming together. It’s important to both acknowledge how far we’ve come and how much more work we need to put in to achieve our goals.
Due to shifting the pass forward a week, there were a couple of hiccups in this version of the animatic that we weren’t able to see, such as a rendering issue that speed certain sequences up and certain shots not being imported into the Unreal scene as intended. As the editor, going forward I would like to put together an animatic at least a few days prior to our production pass so we can make any last-minute changes and large decisions as a group rather than just myself.
We got a significant amount of feedback about our camera shots and a couple of timing notes. Going forward, I will take these notes into consideration as we advance onto the roughing and polishing of shots.
I have also begun working on shadow projection for our fourth sequence. Initially, Professor Jeremy and I discussed the possibility of using Screen or World texture projection, but this turned out to be less than favorable. Right now, the working method is using a simple image sequence, and finding a way to control it through the sequencer is my next hurdle. I hope to have this sorted out in the coming weeks.
