Dim Progress Check #17 - “Time for Action”
Our second production pass left us feeling hopeful. The response to our updated assets and beginnings of effects were received well. There are a few areas that we need to improve on, like parts of our score, some textures and lighting touch ups, but most importantly to me our camera angles and animation. We’ve been moving through the animation pipeline, bringing up the film as a whole step by step, but one area that has been weak is our use of the camera.
A professor of ours loves to ask the question “who’s shot is this” and I now feel that I am at a step in my artistic career to consistently answer this question proficiently. I plan on spending the upcoming weekend redoing some of our camera angles in hopes of giving them more oomph and amplifying what makes our shots important. Our film is heavily reliant on emotion, and while some of that can be conveyed through animation, great animation with lackluster camera angles is meaningless.
We only have a few weeks left until our film needs to be concluded, but I remain hopeful. There’s still a lot to do, but ultimately I believe in our ability to create the best short film we can.
I will have a comparison of previous shots to updated shots in the next blog post.
